Gals. I love for things to be neat, tidy, clean, and in their place. I don’t care for a bunch of chaos! I would never survive Mardi Gras or an out of control, loud concert mosh pit. TOO MUCH CHAOS! The fact that our house is 60(ish) years old, and I cannot get years of dirt off the dust boards makes me cringe! Call me a little type A…I’d have to agree! Well, well, well…kiddos come along and make life a little crazier. Diapers pile up, bath toys lay out to dry, milk splatters during playtime, toys explode in the house, and meals become a warzone of sweet potatoes and blueberries! Amok, amok, amok!
The results of a 1 year old’s birthday party…sigh.
This week Liam began drinking whole milk and eating regular meals. Aside from a slight breakdown because I don’t quite know what or how much to feed a tiny human, we’ve made it a week without losing our minds or starving! Sign me up for a mommy sticker chart, pronto! The very first day of our new adventure, I twitched with every splatter of food on the high chair trey, the floor, even me. Not to mention the mess all over Liam’s hands (that tend to go straight to his clean, adorable blonde locks). That night I was laying in bed after being exhausted from the day…thinking about what he needs to eat (rather than just heating up a bottle) and feeling like all I’m doing is cleaning him up, and it is TIRING! I know I sound dramatic, but wow! Anyway, I was lying in bed, looking at pictures from the day, and it hit me. I’ve got to learn to EMBRACE THE MESSY. If I don’t start embracing the mess, it will threaten to steal every ounce of joy I find in my sweet boy. Satan was trying to use the mess to try to distract me and suck out thanksgiving I should be offering to the Lord for the many blessings He’s given me!
It’s even behind his ears! Bless.
What kind of mess are you dealing with? It may not be as trivial as the mess of baby food, but we all have some ounce of mess in our lives. I don’t know the particular mess you’re trudging through, but I pray you are able to appreciate all the blessings in your life through the mess! Most importantly, I hope you’re able to see the beautiful grace God extends to us especially when we are such a MESS on our own!
“All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:15-18
His shirt says it all!
The mess doesn’t seem so overwhelming when we fix our eyes on Jesus Christ. May we offer grace to others who may be contributing to mess in our lives. May we be willing to serve, even if it means giving a 3rd bath for the day. May we offer praise to Jesus, even if we don’t see the end of our situation. May we fix our eyes on the true, constant, never-a-mess, calm-in-the-chaos Jesus Christ. May we embrace the messy and be thankful for all the GOOD.
