A leap of faith

I started Dear Sweetheart Events on October 1, 2013. Ladies, I had no idea what to expect!! Truly!!! I had no idea how to write a contract or price my packages; and I was so afraid I wouldn’t be able to book any clients!! I had planned weddings for friends, and just recently planned my own… and I KNEW I had to try!! I knew in my heart Jesus was telling me to GO. He was calling me to start this little business, to take a leap of faith and TRUST Him in the unknown.

Terrifying, right? Stepping out and doing something a little crazy, because we know in our heart we were made to do it.  I didn’t know if I would succeed or fail, in fact, I still don’t! But God doesn’t call us to sit on the sidelines of our own life and watch it pass us by. He calls us to ACT. He wants us to live a life we LOVE…and do it for Him and Him alone. (Now, I believe that there are times in our lives where the Lord is going to call us to “be still & wait”. And while those times are beautiful seasons in their own right, this post is geared toward those times in our lives when we know in our heart Jesus is calling us to “go”! We must always, always listen to the Holy Spirit and take these leaps of faith when we feel the Lord pushing us in that direction!)

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24 (NKJV)

As Christian, we are called to life a life full of the Gospel… to show the world who Jesus is and how He died to save us. Our lives are not our own and have never been… and that makes us really powerful business owners!! I KNOW that my business belongs to Jesus before myself. Therefore I want to my business model & mission to always point back to Him!! I want my brides, my blog readers & the vendors I work with to know that what I say & how I act, is a reflection of the One who created me. It’s a bit scary … owning your own business is hard enough, and then when you add in the fact that you are praying God uses it for HIS will and not your own, it becomes even scarier! God tells us to GO and LIVE… and we are called to do it ALL for HIM… “Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the LORD and NOT men”!! We are called to point our ENTIRE being back to Jesus and to all He did on the cross. That’s the business model I have. That’s what I want every bride to see & feel & hear. I don’t know what my business is going to look like in 6 months, let alone 5 years!! But I do know God is calling me to take this leap every day… to run DSE as a reflection of who He is and to continue to dream bigger & higher. While the future will always be unknown, I DO know Jesus will always be the center… pushing & propelling me toward Kingdom work.

So GO. Get out there and make that dream of yours a reality!! Dream “heartily” and live for Him… He’s cheering you on!!

I’m the girl behind Dear Sweetheart Events, a wedding planning & floral design company based in Virginia! Whether you met your sweetheart at the age of 17, 28 or 65, I believe it’s real, lasting & deserves to be celebrated … and I want to brides do just that!! I know in my heart Jesus is my Hope & Savior, and I’m constantly being redeemed. I firmly believe that the little things usually mean more than the big, a good outfit makes any day better, and any craft involving ribbon & sparkle is bound to be amazing. I’m so happy to be on the GLOW blog today & can’t wait to get to know you, too!

Wow, I can imagine that was a huuuuge step! I love your writing and the article. I love how you spur us readers on to go into the direction of our dreams. My personal problem is that I would love for the Lord to use me – but I don’t have any dreams. They have all vanished in the four years I’ve been at home battling my anxiety disorder now. So my prayer for the new year is to have dreams, God-shaped dreams! Blessings for you and your bussiness!
