I have been thinking a lot about the word ‘Stories’. You know, every word begins to look a little funny after awhile but there is something about this word that catches my eye and causes me to pause, every single time. At first I thought there was no meaning to it. But then, over time, the word began to have power and I began to really think about what it is that the word “stories” really means. I began to think about how I have story, you have a story, everyone has a story to tell and the only time story becomes “stories” is when one single story is shared that provokes another single story to be shared which provokes yet another and then another and so on and so forth.
We ALL have a story to tell. Whether that story be about the day you met Jesus, or the day you met your husband, the day you met your child, the day you lost your child, the day you lost your husband, the day that _______________. I don’t know, you fill in the blank. The point is. YOU have a story too.
In every great story there always seems to be a low point… you know, when the main character is going through a tough time and then just before the book ends that character manages to pull through and he/she is on top of the world. That moment when the main character(s) gets through their “valley” (so-to-speak) can make you laugh, or cry, want to stand on your feet in cheer…etc. Seeing people get through their valleys is what makes the stories great!
What happens when the main character doesn’t get through their valley? It almost seems like their story never gets told, but we all have a story. We all have been through a valley. Maybe you’re going through one right now and you are just hoping that you make it out alive and soon!
I’m here today to tell you that your story isn’t finished. It’s not going to end in the middle of the valley. YOU are going to make it out.. Why?! Because even in the midst of pain, struggle, frustration, doubt, stress and worry… Jesus sees you. He sees you and He wants to carry all of that for you. He wants to give you rest.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Another way you could say that is Come to me those who don’t know how they are going to pay this months rent, those who don’t know if their marriage is going to make it, those who don’t know if their parents are going to live to see their child born, those who don’t know where they are going to sleep tonight, those who don’t know where they are going to work next…etc. Jesus sees ALL of that because he sees YOU. In your valley, at your breaking point, he sees you and He wants you to give it to Him so that you can continue moving forward.
Satan wants you to stop, sit down in your valley, soak in all of the emotions that come from whatever you are going through and to never leave. Jesus wants to free you from the emotions that you are experiencing. He wants to breathe life back into you so that you can walk out of your valley and into His arms.
The thing about stories is that we will never know them unless they are told. And your story NEEDS to be told. Your story needs to be told to not only praise Jesus for saving you from darkness but also, to encourage others around you that they aren’t alone in their valley and that if you can make it through, they can too!
If you are walking in your valley today, my prayer for you is that you have the courage to go to Jesus and let him carry your burdens. Let me him fill you back up with joy, strength, courage, and peace. I pray that you wouldn’t be blinded by the plans of the enemy and that you will refuse to sit down and stay. Jesus has called you HIS, he has plans for YOU and all you have to do is seek Him.
If you have made it through your valley and feel like your story isn’t special or one to tell, my prayer for you is that you would find the courage to share. Jesus uses us all the time to have an impact on those around us. Your story could be the exact thing that someone needs to hear in order to remain faithful to their spouse, or to realize that Jesus is all they need, or even to just keep going, one day at a time…. You were put here on purpose, your life has meaning…. All there is to do now is shine your light and tell your story!
